Watch Out for These Tricks
Unfortunately, some home improvement companies focus more on sales than customer satisfaction. It gives the whole industry a bad name. Improving your home should be enjoyable! With that in mind, here are some insider tips for your consideration:
Some flooring companies offer gimmicks like "free rooms" of carpeting. What the buyer doesn't know is: there will be unexpected costs at the last minute. The buyer is often told "that isn't included" during installation yet there is no way to complete the installation without buying the extra line items. Demand an all-inclusive, unbreakable price estimate before signing a contract.
Some companies offer "one free room" or "free installation." Nothing is free! There will be fees for everything other than the freebie item, and many of those fees will pop up at the last minute. Avoid companies that have to resort to deceptive, gimmicky tactics.
COMMISSIONED SALES STAFF
A commissioned salesperson will create a high pressure buying environment. They have been incentivized to close a deal as fast as possible, at the highest price possible. Buyers often regret their rushed decision. We recommend that you only work with reputable companies that offer a pressure-free experience.
Some companies — especially the big box stores — will sub their installation work out to any company that is available. The sub might not be skilled, and works for the big box store, not you. They simply don't have a reason to please you. We recommend that you only hire a company that can provide a complete solution (support, sales, AND installation).
